ARTG 220 has three major assignments. The first is learning about WordPress, how to make a page, how to add plugins and content, and other general content management system basic information. The second assignment, the Informational Site, requires that they use the skills they learned from the first assignment and apply what they know about the elements and principles of design, gestalt principles, and newly acquired user experience basic knowledge. The assignment is a three to five page informational website (topics are decided by the class, but they all work on the same 3 or 4 topics). The site must include at least one map, a contact form, and make use of a page builder (BeaverBuilder, Elementor, or Oxygen) and up to 5 plugins to help with things like sliders, calendars, or menus. I ask that they spend a little time focusing on web writing to stress the importance of accessibility, information hierarchy, keywords and phrases, and in-text linking.
  • A basic understanding of WordPress and how plugins and themes work within the system
  • Elementor, BeaverBuilder, or Oxygen (page builder plugins)
  • Other plugins as needed
  • Basic understanding of CSS styling
